Prof. Maurizio Cellura of the University of Palermo presented the CRIM-SAFRI project to the VIII Conference of the Italian LCA Network “New horizons of the LCA: towards a systemic and integrated approach to the design of products, processes and services”, held at the Morgagni Education Centre of the University of Florence, on June 19th and 20th 2014.
The event dealt with issues related to the need to “design” for environmental sustainability so as to harmonize it with the other features that contribute to the quality of a product, process and service such as, reliability, safety, performance and cost. During the conference interesting case studies related to various issues were presented, including energy, transportation, waste, construction and agribusiness.
As part of the “Construction” session, coordinated by Prof. Monica Lavagna of the Milan Polytechnic and Prof. Roberta Salomone of the University of Messina, Prof. Cellura submitted a contribution entitled “The Life Cycle Assessment as a support tool for small and medium-sized enterprises: a case study in Sicily “, in which the Italo-Maltese Research Centre for Environmental Sustainability and Renewable Sources (CRIM-SAFRI), the priority missions of the Centre and the actions that the Centre intends to play in support of SMEs and Public Administration were described, with particular attention to the role of the Life Cycle Assessment.
The work was published in the Conference proceedings, available online on the website www.enea.it.
