The European Commission has established the COVENANT OF MAYORS to endorse and support the efforts made by local authorities in the implementation of policies in the field of sustainable energy. Local governments, in fact, play a decisive role in mitigating the effects of climate change, especially when you consider that 80% of energy consumption and CO2 emissions are associated with urban activities. The COVENANT OF MAYORS is a project intended to foster the creation of sustainable communities in EU countries through local actions and also by improving the daily habits of citizens. The COVENANT OF MAYORS, in fact, aims to promote and coordinate public awareness on the issues of efficiency and energy conservation.
Directors and officers of the Sicilian municipalities, technicians working in the field of renewable energy, professionals, associations, citizens and the media will be the main beneficiaries of the seminar, which aims to improve management skills in the fields of energy, environment and urban mobility. The seminar is aimed, in reference to Sicily’s territory and in a “secular” and constructive perspective, to illustrate the “state of the art” of the COVENANT OF MAYORS and the status of implementation of the SEAP (Sustainable Energy Action Plans) as well as their development prospects, with the contribution of the experience already gained in Italy and abroad, both in terms of pilot technological solutions of organizational and financial models.
